01 — Where the boats lie

The sailing areas of British Virgin Islands, biggest fleet first

One sailing area, with the bases on Tortola: the Sir Francis Drake Channel is sheltered between the islands, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke and Anegada are the days out, and nothing is more than a few hours away.

03 — The bases

Where you set off

A charter boards at the marina its company names for your week — we show that marina on every card and every page, never a guess. The busiest bases first.

04 — When to go

Season, wind and the week

December to April is the season, with the weeks around Christmas and New Year the busiest and dearest; the trade winds blow steadily from the east. Summer is quieter and cheaper, and the hurricane months from late August to October are when many fleets pause. Changeover is not tied to Saturday as tightly as in the Mediterranean.

Most fleets change over on Saturday. A dated search shows only boats whose company allows exactly your stay — we never move your dates.
