01 — Where the boats lie

The sailing areas of Italy, biggest fleet first

Sardinia is the biggest fleet — the Maddalena archipelago in the north-east, with Corsica a short crossing away. Sicily's charters run to the Aeolian and Egadi islands; Campania's to Capri, Ischia and the Amalfi coast; Tuscany's to Elba and the Argentario.

Where you set off

A charter boards at the marina its company names for your week — we show that marina on every card and every page, never a guess. The busiest bases first.

04 — When to go

Season, wind and the week

May to October, July and August the busiest and dearest. The mistral reaches Sardinia's north coast with force in spring and autumn, and the summer afternoon sea breeze is the daily rhythm elsewhere. Most fleets change over on Saturday.
