01 — Where the boats lie

The sailing areas of Spain, biggest fleet first

The Balearic Islands are the fleet: Palma and the bays of Mallorca, Menorca's calas a day's sail north-east, Ibiza and Formentera to the south-west. The Canaries are a winter ground with Atlantic swell and steady trade winds.

03 — The bases

Where you set off

A charter boards at the marina its company names for your week — we show that marina on every card and every page, never a guess. The busiest bases first.

04 — When to go

Season, wind and the week

May to October in the Balearics, with July and August the busiest and most expensive; the sea breeze builds on summer afternoons, and the tramontana can blow hard from the north in spring and autumn. The Canaries sail all year. Most fleets change over on Saturday.
